The problem

The problem

In 2023, 88 million users worldwide were using Uber Eats. 31% of them reported ordering food (often from fast food) at least twice a week, a frequency that can contribute to poor eating habits and, consequently, an increased risk of obesity.

The goal was to create an intuitive and attractive mobile application that encourages users to choose healthier options at fast-food restaurants, without sacrificing the quick and convenient experience that makes these establishments successful.

With my group, we conducted a benchmark to analyze competitors, identifying key issues and interesting features that motivate users to engage with this type of application. Our aim was to develop a concrete but non-radical idea (we are here to support users in changing their eating habits, without forcing them to follow a strict diet).

This research led us to conclude that users primarily choose these apps for their fast delivery, often opting for fast food. While healthy alternatives do exist, they are either unappealing or too expensive, which discourages users from making healthier choices.

The most well-known apps in this market also employ rather questionable techniques to tempt users into giving in to what they see.

We came up with a concept for a home seed delivery app, incorporating the features of a typical food delivery app. With daily tracking, users can grow and maintain their plants, allowing them to enjoy fresh produce without moderation!

We began designing the app by creating its site map to identify the main pages we would need to design. This also helps ensure we stay on track and maintain clear, simple navigation, so users don't get lost while using the app.

With such a simplified navigation, users won’t get lost on the app and will stay focused on their goal of ordering healthy food, without being tempted by other options.

After defining the main pages to design, we started creating the wireframes (the goal of this school project was not to design every page, but only those necessary to demonstrate our concept). While we had no difficulty creating the site map, this part was more challenging as we struggled to provide a distinct added value compared to the others app.

While envisioning the wireframes, we came up with the idea of guiding users in creating their own home garden using the seeds offered on the application. There are highlighted product sections depending on whether they are vegetables or fruits, the current season, and if the plants grow indoors or outdoors.

Each product is therefore categorized specifically so that users can best understand what they need to achieve the best possible vegetable garden.

The wireframe stage also helped us define the components that needed to be designed for our design system.

With the components defined, we began building (on our scale) the design system associated with the application. Buttons, tokens, stepper… each was designed to create a minimalist and user-friendly interface, ensuring a comfortable experience for the user.

Every component is documented with its use cases, so that any designer working on the app can easily follow along and maintain consistency throughout the design.
